Trauma Therapy

Trauma can happen in many different ways, but some of the most common people go to counseling for include:

  • Being the victim of a crime

  • Domestic violence or abuse

  • Car accidents and other life-threatening experiences

  • Death of a loved one or a pet

  • Psychological abuse

  • Childhood abuse and neglect

  • Serious medical complications

  • Military combat or warfare experiences

  • Surviving torture or terrorism

  • Religious trauma and abuse

  • Or even witnessing one of these things happening to someone else

Have you experienced something that was frightening, disturbing, or life-threatening? Do you find yourself feeling tense and constantly on guard? Do painful memories from the past keep flashing back, making you relive the horror? Have you begun avoiding certain places, people, or things, just to keep your mind at ease?

If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, you might struggle with the effects of trauma – also known as posttraumatic stress.

And, we are here for you.

If you believe that you or a loved one might be struggling with the after-effects of a traumatic life event, look for the three major warning signs of posttraumatic stress.

If you are noticing any of these warning signs for PTSD, trauma therapy. is the best treatment option. Left untreated, traumatic symptoms can dramatically affect your health and quality of life.

We provide compassionate and trauma-informed care to children, teens, and adults because we believe that everyone deserves a chance at healing – including you.

How will therapy help with my trauma?

Trauma is kind of like breaking a bone.

Often, there is a great deal of pain initially, sometimes shock and feelings of numbness, and the recovery and healing can take time. Many people recover well from broken bones (as well as from trauma), but sometimes the bone doesn’t heal quite right, and sometimes the pain remains. Sometimes, the doctor will need to readdress and reset the bone, which tends to be uncomfortable – but ultimately provides a chance for proper healing.

Similarly, therapy for trauma is all about going back to the pain you experienced, processing those memories, and learning to let go of feelings of hurt, disgust, anger, and misery. Sometimes, rehashing those old memories can bring back old emotions, and so therapists also provide you with effective coping strategies to manage that stress and make the process easier. Ultimately, the goal is to help you move forward, become “unstuck,” and heal from those feelings of loss and brokenness.

Here at Key Insights Counseling, we know that you are so much more than what happened to you. We believe that, with the right support, you can find true healing and overcome your trauma. Contact us today to sign up for your first session or learn more about what we do.

What does counseling for trauma look like at Key Insights Counseling?

We are here for you!

Key Insights Counseling is particularly well-equipped to help people overcome posttraumatic stress. Our trauma counselors employ a wide range of therapeutic techniques, such as EMDR, Expressive Arts, Somatic, Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy to help meet you wherever you are at in your healing journey.

Our services are designed to incorporate the latest research while offering strategic, compassionate and solution-focused treatment.

The initial session is called the “intake interview,” which involves a thorough review of your life story and current situation.
